The team

The core team at FAR Corporate consists of Ian Smith and Stan Wilson each of whom has over 40 years of financial services, investment banking and/or banking experience both in New Zealand as well as offshore.

Ian is the founder and Managing Director of the FAR group of companies. He has held directorship positions in a range of both private and public companies. He has played a key role in both assisting companies to grow and companies with challenges to restructure. He has extensive experience as an investor and investment banker across a diverse range of sectors, and possesses skills in business strategy, structuring and restructuring, problem solving, capital raising, modelling and analysis. Ian has over 40 years' experience in the finance and investment industries, starting his career with share broking firm Francis Allison Symes in 1983 before establishing the FAR Group in late 1986.

Stan is a seasoned finance industry professional with a wealth of experience in corporate lending and funds management spanning over 35 years. He holds a BCom in Economics and Marketing, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance.

Before joining Far, Stan served as a Client Director at ASB Corporate Bank in Wellington, where he spearheaded a team responsible for origination, structuring, execution, and portfolio management of various forms of debt products, including corporate lending, leverage, and acquisition finance. He has also held the position of Senior Equities Portfolio Manager for AMP Capital, where he demonstrated his expertise in valuing companies and creating value for his clients. In addition, he has worked for other reputable banks, including Morgan Stanley in London, where he specialised in tradable debt products.
